US markets fell on Friday, to end the week in the red after rallying in the beginning of the week. Markets fell as profit warning from JC Penney raised concerns about slowing consumer spending while more analysts' warning made financial stocks tumble as well. More dividend cuts and a forecast of further 25% drop in banking shares really hurt financial sector. CPI data which only showed a small increase in prices, which means that inflation is not really a concern for the markets, did not help much for the decline on Friday in a rather thin trading session. The Dow fell 86.06 pts or 0.70% to 12216.40, S&P500 fell 10.54 pts or 0.8% to 1315.22 while Nasdaq fell 19.65 pts or 0.86% to 2261.18. More bad news are expected this week in the labor department on unemployment data and also on manufacturing data. Analysts predict markets may fall further if the unemployment rate hit 5%.
Asian markets may take a breather today after huge rally last week following the tumble in Wall St on Friday. Markets may open lower today and may extend losses on concerns about US economic slowdown and if investors want to sit out and wait for more news to come out of the US. However, more window dressing action may take place if investors still think that they want to collect stocks and make their companies' report look nice. Crude oil was recently traded around $104ish per barrel, gold traded around $926.50ish and JPY rose against US$ to 99ish. Nikkei futures closed at 12700 on CME compared to the close of 12855 here on Friday.
The Kospi may start the day lower around 217ish and may fall further on global economic concerns and if investors want to enjoy little bit of profit in the midst of uncertain times. Conflict with N.Korea may cause the Kospi to fall further today if investors are concerns that the conflict will spread bigger. Some late window dressing action may take place and prevent the market to sink too much if there are more window dressing actions.
Hangseng may start the day lower today after rallying for the past 5 sessions. It may start around 23000ish and may fall further below 23000 today if investors decide to enjoy some profit ahead of more news to come out of the US. Hangseng may rely on the mainland stocks to take direction in these uncertain times.

Asian market preview 28/03/2008
US markets fell for 2nd day overnight following the GDP and jobless claims data. Q4 2007 GDP was at 0.6%, in line with analysts' expectations but it showed that the economy has contracted so much compared to the 4.9% growth rate the previous quarter. Jobless claims has unexpectedly decreased by 9000 to 366000 but analysts believe that unemployment is expected to rise this year given the current economic conditions. Markets also fell as concern that profit growth will weaken for financials and technology companies. Oracle Corp. tumbled after its revenue trailed analysts' estimate and Google Inc. also slid after the search engine received fewer ad click. However, consumer spending in Q4 rose higher than expected to 2.3% and sales of US goods and services to other countries grew 6.5% due to declining dollar. The Dow fell 120.40 pts or 0.97% to 12302.46, S&P500 fell 15.37 or 1.15% to 1325.75 while Nasdaq tumbled 45.53 pts or 1.87% to 2280.83. Despite of the decline, there seems to be a different mindset among traders right now and people are buying on weakness as long as there is no other Bear Stearns out there.
Asian markets may start the day slightly lower today tracking the US decline overnight. However, many analysts believe that there might be Window dressing in session for today before the last day of March on Monday. Crude oil price rose again to above $107 overnight after a pipeline fire in Iraq cut supplies. Crude oil was recently traded around $107.30ish per barrel, gold was recently traded around $948.90ish and JPY traded around 99.60ish. Nikkei futures was closed at 12700 compared to the close of 12745 here yesterday.
The Kospi may start the day slightly lower around 214ish today following the decline in Wall St overnight. However, decline may be limited should foreign investors decided to come in and buy stocks in South Korea. US economic data was not as bad as predicted as the economy still grow but at a very small rate according to the GDP data and the downside trend may only be dominated by profit taking by nervous investors.
Hangseng may pullback at the open to around 22650ish for the new contract tracking the US markets overnight. There may be some profit taking to take place today after a series of strong gains for the past 3 days for Hangseng. If Hangseng can breach the 22800 level, it may even try and go towards 23000 today. There may be a chance that a window dressing session may take place too today before the end of March to make the shares look better.

Asian market preview 25/03/2008
US markets posted another gain overnight after JP Morgan said that they would revise their bid for Bear Stearns to $10 a share. Investors are pleased by JP Morgan's action and that caused stocks to rally. Another reason for the rally was a better-than-expected existing home sales data, which rose in February rather than decline as expected by most analysts. The data showed a first increase for existing home sales in 7 months and may indicates that the market is nearing its bottom. The Dow rallied 187.32 pts or 1.52% to 12548.64, S&P500 rose 20.37 pts or 1.53% to 1349.88 while Nasdaq soared 68.64 pts or 3.04% to 2326.75.

Technology sectors may play a big part in the market rally again today and also the optimism that there's some bottom to the credit crisis.
Hangseng may open higher today after tumbling and closed below 21000 last week. Reversal tend to happen and Hangseng may test the 22000 level again today. However, there may be some limit to the gains as a renewed concerns about inflation in the country and also the ever growing pressure from China to contain their inflation problem. Some analysts in the US also believe that the market turmoil is not over yet and this is just a temporary upside before the bear markets start to go back down again.

Asian market preview 21/03/2008
US markets were closed higher overnight after bargain hunters kicked in and a milder-than-expected drop in a regional manufacturing report helped to boost stocks on Thursday. Economic readings on Thursday sent mixed signals; the labor department said that the number of jobless claims rose to the highest in 2 months while Conference Board said that its index of leading economic indicators fell, as expected for fifth month. The less than expected drop in manufacturing gave a reason for Wall St to buy back into stocks after sharp declines the day before. The plunge in commodity prices also gave investors some hope that lower prices may ease inflation concerns. Asian market preview 19/03/2008
US markets skyrocketed overnight following a better than expected earnings from Goldman Sachs and Lehman Brothers. Markets were also strengthened after The Fed made a 75 bps point rate cut to make the Fed Funds rate at 2.25%, the lowest since 2004. Although many would expect a 100 bps point cut, markets erased early disappointment, thinking that a 75 bps cut would leave the door wide open for The Fed to give more cuts when necessary. Fed's chairman Ben Bernanke also said in a statement that "recent information indicates that the outlook for economic activity has weakened further" but also that "uncertainty about the inflation outlook has increased". The Fed once again showed that it is ready for further action when needed. The Dow soared 420.41 pts or 3.51% to 12392.66, S&P500 rose 54.14 pts or 4.24% to 1330.74 while Nasdaq rose 91.25 pts or 4.19% to 2268.26.

Kospi may go back beyond 210ish today as investors may get optimistic about the outlook for the US economy as The Fed showed that they're willing to go great lengths to save the economy.
Hangseng may follow other markets and open higher today following the biggest rally in 5 years on Wall St overnight. It may open above 22000 today and if market is optimist enough, it may even touch the 23000 mark today. However, the problems in China may overshadow the Hangseng market today and that may cause some volatilities in the market today. However, today's focus may just be for investors to enjoy some upside after some positive outlooks came out of the US following the strings of bad news for the past few weeks.

Asian market preview 18/03/2008
US markets ended the turbulent session mixed overnight after Fed's move to cut discount rate by 0.25% and after JP Morgan struck a deal to buy Bear Stearns at $2 a share or a tenth of its market value. Most stocks fell, led by financial companies as investors punished them, thinking that they are overvalued after the Bear Stearns' collapse. JP Morgan led the gains in Wall St as it surged 10% after its acquisition of Bear Stearns. The Fed is now expected to cut 100 bps at their meeting on Tuesday night. Gold and oil dropped from its record highs and led the oil and metal companies lower. Asian markets may open flat today with a lot of volatilities to be expected today. Markets may rebound from yesterday's heavy losses on The Fed's prospect of a rate cut later on tonight. However, with banks and financial sectors was heavily battered overnight in Wall St, it is also possible that markets may go down further. Oil and mining companies may drop today after oil dropped more than $4, gold fell from its highest and copper drop the most on concerns that global demand is cooling. Crude oil was recently traded around $106ish per barrel, gold traded around $10002ish and JPY traded around 97.50ish. Nikkei futures closed at 11860 compared to the close of 11630 here yesterday.
The Kospi may open slightly higher today as a technical rebound is expected to happen today after heavy losses for the past few sessions. However, a lot of negative factors are still in the market today and it may cause high volatilities in the market as investors are trying to find something solid to hold onto.
Hangseng may get a rebound today after losing more than 5% yesterday. Oil and mining companies may drop today with the decline of their prices overnight. High volatilities may be expected today with bargain hunters may start kicking in but in reality, weak markets globally may still dominate the Hangseng market. The Fed is going to hold a meeting tonight and will announce its rate decision and that may be some driver for the market if investors are feeling slightly optimistic of what The Fed may offer.

Asian Market Preview 17/03/2008
US markets tumbled on Friday after Bear Stearns revealed that it needed rescuing. The Fed and JPMorgan Chase & Co. offered Bear Stearns relief to boost up its liquidity from a sudden crunch that has made investors nervous that the credit problems are far from over in the financial sector. The markets have risen mildly earlier after report from Labor department showed the Consumer Price Index remained flat for February which means inflation have not risen up too much. However, markets turned south after news from Bear Stearns came out. The Dow lost 194.65 pts or 1.60% to 11951.09, S&P500 fell 27.34 pts or 2.08% to 1288.14 while Nasdaq fell 51.12 pts or 2.26% to 2212.49.
Asian markets may open lower again today following fears about an ongoing credit crisis in the US, oil traded near all time high and after gold touched an all time high price at $1009ish. The weakness in US$ may also means that Asian markets may fall further. Crude oil recently traded around $109.95ish, gold traded around $1006ish while JPY traded around 98.80ish. Nikkei futures closed at 12140 in CME lower than the close of 12330 here on Friday.
THe Kospi may open lower today around 203ish and may fall further on concerns that inflation may pick up after oil traded at near all time high prices and after Korean Won gained strength against US$. US credit market concerns may also fuel more sell-off in the market however, a dim hope may be there as analysts believe that the US is close to a bottom and after Henry Paulson said that they are going to do whatever it takes to help rescue the market.
Hangseng may open lower and below 22000 mark around 21800ish today. It may fell further on investors' concerns regarding the health of the US economy and the ongoing credit crisis. High commodity prices do not offer help to the market as it signaled a higher inflation rate around the region especially after US$ grow weaker each day against most currencies. However, long term investors may start buying into the market and start collecting cheap stocks and this may cause volatility to be high in the market and may offer good advantage for us daytraders.

Asian market preview 13/03/2008
US markets were closed lower overnight after a huge rally the day before. Investors were hesitant to pour more money into the market although they like what The Fed's plan to inject $200 billion into the system. Investors are still concerns that The Fed's plan may fail to help ease the declining credit market and won't be able to prevent recession quickly. Volatile energy prices also added to the anxiety; oil initially fell from its highs, only to go back up and set another record price and with very high crude prices, investors think that The Fed may have limited space to do something with the recession problems as inflation rises. The Dow fell by 46.57 pts or 0.38% to 12110.24, S&P500 fell 11.88 pts or 0.9% to 1308.77 while Nasdaq fell 11.89 pts or 0.53% to 2243.87.
Asian markets may open lower today after a huge gap formed yesterday's morning only to give up most gains by the end of the day. Profit taking may cause markets to edge lower and more worries about the condition of US economy may add to the decline. Crude oil set another intraday high of above $110 per barrel and was recently traded around $109.90ish per barrel. Gold was traded higher at $982ish, US$ go weaker against JPY and traded around 101.45ish. Nikkei futures closed at 12800 in CME compared to the close of 12910 here yesterday.
The Kospi may open lower today around 210ish today after a huge rally yesterday failed to hold towards the end of the session. The Kospi initially opened more than 2.5% higher only to give up most of its gains and closed at only 1% higher. Further profit taking may take place today in the market and investors may not want to bet more money into the market while waiting for more data coming out of the US.
Hangseng may open lower too today around 23150ish and may go to below 23000 again today if more investors decide to take profit. Higher crude oil may prove not quite healthy for the market as it means higher inflation for the Asian countries. Volatility in the market may be high again today and that may prove useful for us daytraders.

Asian market preview 11/03/2008
US markets extended drop overnight to close at its lowest levels since 2006, led by the plunge in financial shares, on speculation that earnings estimates will prove to be too high as economy slows and credit losses spread. Better than expected report from the US commerce department that said US wholesale inventories rose 0.8% in January and sales at US wholesalers rose 2.7% were shrugged off by investors as oil rose to another record highs and also after Bear Stearns Cos. tumbled on concern the brokerage was facing financial difficulties. The next market moving data is going to be on Thursday on retail sales and Friday on consumer prices. The Dow fell 153.54 pts or 1.29% to 11740.15, S&P500 fell 20 pts or 1.55% to 1273.37 while Nasdaq fell 43.15 or 1.95% to 2169.34.
Asian markets may open lower yet again today following more worries about the US recession coming out of the world's biggest economy. Inflation worries as commodities prices surges everyday may also have an impact around Asian markets. Crude oil reached as high as $108.17 and was recently traded at 107.90ish per barrel, gold traded lower around $971.60ish and JPY traded stronger VS US$ at 101.70ish. Some investors may expect a rebound after Kospi losing quite a lot of points since Friday and this may cause high volatilities in the market.
Hangseng may open lower today after the market rallied last minute yesterday to around 22500ish. Analysts have declared that the US is clearly in recession now and concerns that it will spread worldwide may caused investors to flee to safe haven. In long term, Asian markets such as China and India may support the region and this will help Hangseng market too. Volatilities in the market may still be high today and this will be good for us daytraders.

Asian market preview 03/03/2008
US markets extended their monthly loss last week after ending the week lower, marking a 4 straight month of declines. Weak economic data such as estimation of increased losses at banks and speculation that rising unemployment and lower manufacturing are pushing the economy into recession. These concerns have made investors extremely nervous towards the end of last week after rising for the first 3 days of the week. AIG retreated the most on Friday after reporting its biggest loss due to writedowns from subprime-mortgage market's collapse. UBS mentioned that bank losses may reach $600 billion. Dow lost 315.79 pts or 2.51% on Friday to 12266.39, S&P500 fell 37.05 pts or 2.71% to 1330.63 while Nasdaq shed 60.09 pts or 2.58% to 2271.48.
Asian markets may open lower following the US markets' tumbled on Friday and after oil reached its new intraday high at $103.05 per barrel. The worrying economic conditions may push the asian markets further lower today and without positive news from each countries, markets in the Asian region may fall quite deep in the 1st trading day of the week. Crude oil was traded recently around $101.80ish per barrel, gold was traded around $973.70ish and JPY traded around 103.30ish. Nikkei was closed at 13290 in CME, lower than the close of 13450 here on Friday.
The Kospi may open lower around 213ish and may fall further if foreign investors decided to take off from the Korean market and wait for better times to get into position again. With weak to no growth in US' economy, it is possible that Asian markets may get a certain level of impact although, asian markets are proved to be strong enough to withstand US' economic recession.
Hangseng may open lower around 23800ish following Friday's US markets tumble and may even fall lower to below 23500ish should investors decided to run away now and get in later on. Energy companies may fall too with oil falling a bit and exporters may be hurt with the weaker US$ worldwide. Markets volatilities may still be high in these uncertain times and that could help us daytraders in getting our profit.
